Illustrator Homework 1

 



Video 1

The pen tool can be used to draw simple shapes and designs. I understand how to draw straight lines, but the drawing curves are a little more complicated. I think this is the hardest tool in this video. You have to hold down a key while moving the mouse.

I think the easiest tool is the text box. This is similar to the Microsoft applications. This video was very helpful because it went through each tool with a simple explanation. It was not overwhelming.



Video 2

The type on a path seems like a really unique tool that I need a lot more practice with. There are several different ways to create a shape for it. I was having trouble moving it because it is very sensitive. I kept accidentally moving it into my circle instead of the outside. This video was very helpful and I hope there are more like it that I can use in the future.




Video 3

In this video, I learned different shortcuts for essential tools. This is very helpful instead of having to go to the toolbar every time to do a simple task. A challenge for me was learning how to rotate shapes and snap rotate them. I also need to practice scaling the shapes to different sizes which is very important for future projects. Overall, this video was very helpful for bringing all the tools to light and simplifying how to use them. I really needed the shortcuts.

  Autoscopy Artist Statement:     I took this picture about a year ago. A butterfly landed on my shoulder and my friend and I thought it would be a great idea to take pictures with it. We tried to direct it towards our noses and it even posed for us. I was inspired to use blue butterflies in this project because the butterfly itself had blue and it would make my eyes pop more. The dark blue makes me think of night, so I also included the moon and galaxy. This ties in all of the colors and themes. I also wanted to add a cloud with a butterfly on it to continue the theme of night and dark blue butterflies. This was a very fun project and I really enjoyed it!

  Logo Project Sketches Black/White Draft Final Black/White Three Colored Logos Artist Statement:     I was inspired by my passion for the environment. I want to pursue a career in conservation and sustainability. I want to spread awareness, so other people can help me preserve the marine environment. The logo expresses my love for the ocean. The hands represent me taking care of the ocean. The wave is a general concept of the ocean. I wanted to have a marine animal, but I decided to use a wave to represent the ocean as a whole. I am proud of how this turned out. My favorite logo is the last one.

BW to Color

 BW to Color Artist Statement:      I was inspired to use a picture I took at the beach because it had a lot of details to work with. I wanted to use vibrant colors in the edited images to simulate tropical vibes.
